SCHOOL LIAISON SERVICES

ENROLLING YOUR CHILD

In order to enroll in ASD and MSBSD you will need to provide:
• Proof of residency; something with your physical address on it such as a bill, lease agreement, or a letter from the housing office. You must be a resident of the Municipality of Anchorage to attend an ASD school.
• The student’s current immunization records.
• Name and address of the student’s last school attended.
• The student’s birth certificate.
• Out of district transcript; for high school students.

KINDERGARTEN

Kindergartners must be five years old on or before September 1. If a family is moving into the district from another state and the child is not yet five, but was enrolled in a public school where they came from, then the child can be enrolled at an ASD school.

BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL CARE ON JBER

There are two School Age Programs (SAP) on base, Illa SAP and Ketchikan SAP.
• Students must attend one of the on-base schools to utilize SAP.
• There may be a waiting list for SAP before and after school care.
• SAP is open for full time care during school breaks.

ZONE EXEMPTION

In order to participate in a school or program outside of your child’s neighborhood school, an application must be submitted. ASD’s online system allows
parents to easily apply to the desired school or program. Zone-Exemption request are not always granted; this is at the Principal’s discretion. ASD is NOT responsible for transportation outside your neighborhood school, parents must make transportation arrangements. If you reside outside of the Anchorage School District and plan for your student to go to school in ASD, be advised there is an out-of-district tuition.

Our School liaison Services advocate for the educational needs of military children. We welcome calls prior to your arrival at JBER and can give you updated, real time information on local schools and community resources. We also assist with the following areas:

  • Advocate for the educational needs of military children

  • Provide information and referrals for the EFMP program

  • Ensure school personnel (principals, teachers, counselors, and staff) are aware of the unique issues facing students whose parents are military

  • Work in partnership programs with our soldiers/airmen and our local schools

Our goal is to assist military personnel (ALL branches of service) and/or their families with easing the transition of dependent children from one duty location to the next.
